Academic Literacy: The Analysis Of First-Year Ukrainian University Students’ Errors In Essay Writing

Ukrainian undergraduate students face challenges in demonstrating high-level proficiency most of their academic writing. As an integral part achievement, writing skills are essential for success at the various levels students’ future career paths. Thus, literacy has raised considerable attention to teaching English as a second language. This study explores competence level 90 first-year Computer Science and Cybernetics Faculty Taras Shevchenko National University Kyiv analyzes essay errors that identified, classified explained. The describes main categories reveals causes production. It is evaluated major types committed are: word choice, spelling, verb tense, articles, prepositions. We consider reasons native language interference, lack knowledge insufficient grammar functional use practice. Focusing on importance encouraging develop literacy, we defined approaches strategies can help teachers learners overcome difficulties After defining errors, were given set tips presented with contrastive L1-L2 comparisons, which resulted significant improvement required skills.
